99 Boys Green Finish as Ontario Indoor Cup Finalists

Our 1999 Boys Green, coached by Mark Purdy, put on an extraordinary display in the 2015 Ontario Indoor Cup, finishing as tournament finalists in the U16 division.

Our Raiders started off the competition in truly astonishing form, scoring 16 goals and conceding only once on their way to winning all 3 of their games in the preliminary round, and emerging as winners of their group.

The boys would then move on to the final round, where they were placed in Group B alongside North London, Erin Mills, and West Toronto. They would finish this round with 2 wins and 1 loss, beating Erin Mills (2-1) and West Toronto (3-1), respectively, claiming second place in the group and securing their spot in the tournament semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, our Raiders were matched up against a tough Islington squad, who were winners of Group A. After a hard fought game, the boys would come out on top by a score of 1-0 thanks to a goal by Kyle Humby, booking themselves a trip to the tournament finals.

The U16 Boys Ontario Indoor Cup final took place on Sunday, January 25 at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan, and would see our Raiders face-off against North London. North London jumped out to an early lead, but our boys never gave up and continued to show incredible character throughout the match. Goalkeeper Devon Spencer had an exceptional game, finishing the day with 22 saves, although it would not be enough as North London would come out on top 3-0 to claim the U16 championship.

A big congratulations goes out to our 1999 Boys Green, including all players and coaches, for this impressive achievement in the 2015 Ontario Indoor Cup. This is a wonderful start to the year for a group who won the OYSL East and the Coupe Quebec-Ontario Cup in 2014, while also claiming a silver medal at the Ontario Summer Games.
