00 Girls Green Ambassador Cup Finalists

July 07, 2015

Our 2000 Girls Green team continued their strong season, earning their second tournament finals appearance in two months. The girls finished as finalists of the Ambassador Cup, which was celebrating it's 25th year in Kingston, Ontario.

The girls were a perfect 3-0 in round robin play, putting on some impressive performances. In the first game, our Raiders saw their determined squad play a very entertaining possession game against Belleville Comets, earning a 1-0 victory. In the second game, our Raiders would come up against a tough, high pressuring Ottawa Internationals team. After falling behind early, our girls showed great determination and stormed back to take the game by a score of 3-1. Our raiders wrapped-up their round robin with a victory over the Dorval Tigers, securing first place in their group and earning a birth in the semi-finals.

The semi-finals had our Raiders facing off with the home town favourites Kingston Clippers. The score was knotted at 0-0 at the end of regulation, which meant the game would go straight to penalty kicks  something that these girls has never had to go through before. With some stellar goalkeeping on display, our girls would have to wait until the 13th round to score the winning penalty and move on to the tournament finals.

The finals had our Raiders up against York Region rivals East Gwillimbury Talons. After finding the back of the net within the first 10 minutes, our Raiders would unluckily concede late in the second half and set the stage for another penalty shootout. Both teams would score with their first 5 shooters, but in the 7th round East Gwillimbury would eventually find the back of the net with a well placed shot.

Congratulations to our 2000 Girls Green on their impressive performance!
