1997 Boys White Crowned CSL Cup Champions

September 24, 2015

On Sunday, August 9, our 1997 Boys White faced-off against Toronto High Park in the U18 CSL Cup final at St. Robert’s High School. This was a rematch of last season’s thrilling Ontario Cup final, a game in which our Raiders were narrowly defeated in penalties.

The game got off to an exciting start, as Toronto High Park were awarded a controversial penalty early on. RHSC goalkeeper Calvin Koehl was up to the test though and dove to his left to make a huge save and keep the score tied 0-0. The two teams exchanged scoring chances in the first half with Toronto High Park nearly going ahead right before the halftime whistle, only to be denied by a goal line clearance.

As the game entered into the second half both teams were looking to take control, and in the 60th minute our Raiders would break the deadlock in a spectacular way. Midfielder Robert Colangelo cut in from the left flank and unleashed a powerful strike from outside the box that found its way into the back of the net, giving our Raiders a 1-0 lead. The teams would go back and forth in the final 30 minutes, but the one goal was all our boys would need to secure the victory and emerge as CSL Cup champions.

Congratulations to our 1997 Boys White, including coaches Jerry Umanski and Pat Baglione, on their impressive performance in the CSL Cup and also their many memorable years with Richmond Hill Soccer Club.
