99 Boys Green Capture Second Straight OYSL Championship
October 05, 2015
Congratulations to our 1999 Boys Green team, who capped off another tremendously successful season over the weekend. The boys, coached by Mark Purdy, captured their second consecutive OYSL championship by winning the OYSL U16 division.
Our Raiders won the OYSL East during the regular season with a record of 12-1-3, which meant they booked themselves a place in the OYSL playoff weekend. The playoff weekend, which took place October 3rd and 4th in Mississauga, had the top 2 teams in the East and West divisions facing off to determine a U16 OYSL champion. Their semi-final matchup had them up against the Mississauga Falcons, who finished second place during the regular season in the U16 West division. The boys played a disciplined team game and advanced to the final with a 3-0 victory.
The finals would see our Raiders competing against OYSL West champions, North London, who managed to go undefeated throughout the regular season. Our boys put on a truly memorable performance, showing incredible determination right from the opening whistle and coming away with a 4-0 victory to claim their second straight OYSL championship.
This was undoubtedly an unforgettable season for this group of players, who also participated in a number of college showcases and ID camps in the United States. Team members for our 1999 Boys Green are as follows: Deji Afoloyan, Michael Argyrides, Alezander Baez, Ethan Beckford, Shae Carter, Kyle Humby, Gabriel Jodhan, Kairav Juta, Marko Micic, Matthew Minchella, Hakeem Oglivie, Daniel Palij, GianPiero Pellicano, Cameron Purdy, Avian Rusicia-Lalgie, Varuhn Ruthirakuhan, Devon Spencer, Reshaun Walkes and Caleb Washington.
A big congratulations goes out to all of the players and staff members, including Head Coach Mark Purdy, Assistant Coach Frank Minchella, Fitness Instructor Tim Rennie and manager Debra Jodhan.
