2001 Boys Claim OPDL Championship, Charity Shield

November 16, 2015

Richmond Hill Soccer Club’s 2001 OPDL boys, coached by Jamie Teixeira and Lucian Hutanu, capped off a tremendous season by finishing as U14 Ontario Player Development League champions. The boys ended the season with an impressive 51 out of a possible 66 points, claiming the West Division title and finishing with the most points out of the 16 boys teams in the entire league.

It was truly an unforgettable year for our Raiders, one which saw them hold an 11 game unbeaten streak and clinch the title on the final day of the season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Whitby.

As champions of the West Division, our Raiders were invited to compete in the inaugural OPDL Charity Shield, which was held on Saturday, November 14th. The Charity Shield was organized by the league to celebrate all OPDL License Holders for their achievements during the 2015 season, and saw our boys face-off against the East Division champions, Ottawa South United.

The match was officiated by world class referees Silviu Petrescu and Anne Chenard, and had Toronto FC media broadcaster Nigel Reid on hand to provide commentary for the livestream broadcast. Our Raiders put on an impressive display, and in the end came away with a memorable 2-0 victory and hoisted the first ever Charity Shield. Claiming the Charity Shield was a remarkable achievement for our Raiders and was a perfect ending to their extraordinary season.
