2001 Girls Win Gold at Collingwood United Invitational

Our 2001 Girls Rep Team started this year's outdoor season off with poise, talent, perseverance and determination, emerging as champions of the competitive CUSC Invitational Tournament.

The girls played a total of 6 games over two days in extreme heat, demonstrating immense character as their performances got progressively stronger throughout the tournament. Coaches André Serero and Alex Shufman are extremely proud of their players and the commitment they showed to playing a possession and fluid style of attacking soccer.

Having moved on from a difficult preliminary round on Saturday, our Raiders proceeded to beat a strong Waterloo team 1-0 in the quarter finals on Sunday morning. They then got revenge on Innisfil, who beat them in the preliminary round, by winning 2-1 in the semi-final match.

This victory meant the girls had booked their spot in the final against a very competitive North Toronto team. The match was a see-saw thriller, with the teams exchanging goals in a very exciting offensive-minded game. After a whirlwind regulation that ended 3-3, the two teams headed to penalties to decide a tournament winner. In a nail-biter of a penalty shoot-out that required 6 rounds, our Raiders were ultimately triumphant and crowned CUSC Invitational Champions.

This victory topped off an amazing and fun-filled weekend at the foot of Blue Mountain, with plenty of team bonding and activities.

Congratulations to our 2001 Raiders!
