U16 Girls Green Win Gold in U17 Nepean Tournament

June 14, 2016

Even the terrible weather could not dampen the spirits and determination of our U16 Girls Green team as they participated in the U17 division of the 22nd Annual Nepean Hotspurs Friendship Tournament. Our Raiders put on a phenomenal display throughout the weekend, scoring a total of 15 goals while impressively conceding zero times on their way to being crowned tournament champions.

The opening match of the round robin saw our Raiders not only play against an older U17 Belleville squad, but also endure heavy wind and rain. Undeterred, the girls went on to win their opener 3-0.

The second game had the girls facing off with the home team, the U17 Nepean Hotspurs. Our Raiders created many chances to score, but had trouble finding the back of the net as the Hotspurs proved to be a physically tough opponent. In the end, our Raiders continued to apply pressure and would eventually prevail by a 1-0 score line. Many lessons were learned in this game that would prove invaluable throughout the rest of the tournament.

In the third and final game of the round robin, our girls were pitted against the other home town U16 Nepean Hotspur squad. This would prove to be the game where the goals started coming, as our Raiders played a strong game which saw them come away with a 6-0 win and automatically book their spot in the final.

The final would turn out to be a rematch against the tough U17 Hotspurs. The girls took the field full of confidence and determination, and were ready to prove they were the best squad in the tournament. They set the tone early as they attacked from the opening whistle and scored two quick goals. In the end, our Raiders would win the match by a convincing 5-0 score line, emerging as champions of the U17 division.

Congratulations to our U16 Girls Green, including coaches Vince Principato and Joe Dimambro, on a job well done!
