Richmond Hill Soccer Club is happy to congratulate Aayan Rattansey from our OPL U20 Men's team on his commitment to the University of Prince Edward Island, where he will continue playing the game he loves with the UPEI Panthers men's soccer program.
The talented centre back will study Biology with a Specialization in Life Sciences while competing under Head Coach Mozesh Gyorio. For Aayan, UPEI stood out because of its strong culture and commitment to developing both players and people. He was drawn to a program that emphasizes accountability, character, and maintaining high standards on and off the field.
As he prepares for the next chapter of his soccer journey, Aayan is eager to test himself at the university level. His immediate focus is on carrying the momentum from his Ontario Premier League season into preseason, where he hopes to showcase his abilities, leadership qualities, and earn his place within the squad.
Although Aayan joined RHSC only this past January as a member of the club's OPL U20 team, he quickly felt at home within the Raiders environment. He credits his teammates and coaching staff for welcoming him from day one and helping him settle into a new club after spending the majority of his soccer career elsewhere.
One of the biggest adjustments for Aayan was moving away from the only club environment he had known. However, he says RHSC's coaches made that transition seamless by taking the time to understand his strengths, weaknesses, and playing style.
"The coaches at RHSC took great detail and time towards learning my skills and mannerisms as a player to help me thrive in this highly competitive environment," said Aayan. "Whether that was drills tailored to my weaknesses in training or playing me in a role that suited me, I felt like my presence made a difference in the team."
Competing in the OPL U20 League also helped prepare him for the demands of post-secondary soccer. Aayan believes the league's competitive environment, where players are expected to put their best foot forward every session and every match, has helped elevate his standards and prepare him for the next level.
Aayan also highlighted the influence of Head Coach Sean, who helped expand his understanding of the game. "Coach Sean helped me understand a different side to the game — a more gritty approach focused on getting results by working as a team and battling for one another," he explained. "It taught me that even when you're on the back foot and have less possession, you can still dominate and control a game. That really changed my understanding of soccer."
Everyone at Richmond Hill Soccer Club would like to congratulate Aayan on this exciting accomplishment. We are proud to have played a role in his journey and look forward to following his success with the UPEI Panthers in the years ahead.
Congratulations, Aayan, and best of luck at UPEI!
