Richmond Hill Soccer Club was proud to welcome Michael Argyrides and Amalia Kontolemos from Path To Becoming this past March, as they delivered mindset and team-building workshops for our OPDL teams. These sessions provided a valuable opportunity for our athletes to strengthen an often-overlooked aspect of development, the mental side of the game.

At RHSC, mental health awareness continues to be a key priority. Creating well-rounded athletes means going beyond technical and physical development, and ensuring players are equipped with the tools to manage pressure, build confidence, and maintain overall well-being. The Path To Becoming workshops served as a strong starting point in helping our players develop these critical life skills both on and off the field.

Path To Becoming is committed to supporting individuals as they strengthen mindset, build confidence, and cultivate sustainable well-being. Their mission focuses on enhancing performance by integrating mindset development and team-building as core components of long-term success. Through both individual coaching and team workshops, they provide athletes, coaches, and organizations with the tools needed to thrive in high-performance environments.

The sessions also carried special meaning for RHSC, as co-founder Michael Argyrides is a former Richmond Hill player who began his journey with the club at just four years old. After progressing through the local pathway, he went on to play at York University before pursuing a professional career as a goalkeeper in Northern Ireland. His experiences, both in sport and as a blood cancer survivor, have shaped his passion for supporting athletes through challenges on and off the field. Reflecting on his journey, Michael shared, “I experienced many challenges and pressures as a professional goalkeeper, and I want to provide young athletes with the support and resources I once needed.” He added, “I am passionate about strengthening high-performance athletes' mindsets both on and off the field, and enhancing their performance.”

Amalia Kontolemos, co-founder of Path To Becoming, brings both professional and personal experience to her work. A registered social worker and former York University varsity athlete, her approach is rooted in supporting athletes and their families through the demands of sport. “With my background in social work and experience supporting youth and their families, mental health awareness remains at my core,” she shared. “As a former varsity athlete, my goal is to support other athletes and their families in strengthening their support systems and social-emotional understanding within sports.”

Through interactive sessions, our OPDL players were introduced to key concepts around mindset, communication, resilience, and team dynamics. The tools will support them not only throughout their soccer journey, but in all aspects of life.

RHSC General Manager & Technical Director Mirco Schroff emphasized the importance of initiatives like this within the club’s development model: “At RHSC, we are committed to developing the complete player. Providing our athletes with access to resources that support their mental health and mindset is essential to helping them perform, grow, and succeed both on and off the field.”

We would like to thank Michael and Amalia for sharing their knowledge and passion with our athletes. RHSC looks forward to continuing this important partnership and building on this foundation in the future as we strive to support the development of every player in our club.
